numbercult 2 is produced by a known name in the uk techno scene... but his name won t be revealed by the label... so it will take some puzzling to find out who he is. this 3 tracker on numbercult kicks of with skeptic on side a , a solid techno workout fusing a phasing bassline and driving percussion which gives the track an unforgettable hook reminiscent of early 90 s detroit releases. the b side continues the pace with the punchy 4/4 and hypnotic lead-line of see feel, while the second track on this side steps down a gear with the reflective, melodic perfection of speak memory. three strong tracks which are not created to entertain the masses... but surely will entertain us for a long time to come! top notch techno that will stand all trends. future classic!
EPILOGUE (RAMADANMAN REMIX)
12 Inch
03.07.09
after only two releases on 7even recordings f has already made huge waves on the scene with his unique sculpted approach to dubstep and techno.
now he is back with a cut which offers a glimpse at a different side to his productions, dub techno styled a-side >epilogue< comes correct, displaying what is clearly a long time love and appreciation of this music. clean production and atmospheric textures create the backdrop for a distant beat which drills into the psyche, making for a deep 4/4 journey trawling through the late night in a smoky haze.
on the b-side, ramadanman weighs in with a rework which absolutely slays. you could call it garage, you could call it dub-tech, but this track is so fresh, we re sure it ll have the funky house heads on their hands and knees as much as the dubstep crowd, dark as hell too - a total crossover. shit is tight, yo!
already supported by mary anne hobbs and rob booth amongst others, this release also featured in the 7even mix for the experimental show on bbc radio one in january 2009.

DIRECTIONS
12 Inch
02.07.09
directions is a soon-to-be-techno-anthem. built around an instantly memorable vocal hook this is a genuine big room tune for the summer. pitched to a chugging groove and mounted on a low, throbbing bassline, no time is wasted in introducing the looped vocal hook that builds and drops towards a sprawling, crowd-pleaser of a breakdown.
backing up the package is the equally impressive tipping point. the 3am front left speaker mix is a shimmering, bass-heavy fusion of old school techno riffs and soaring strings.

the mighty umek gets first crack at c est la vie, turning in a typically straight to the point remake, dropping the distinctive percussive hook over a jackhammer groove. ortin cam (drumcode) adopts a more minimal approach with firing snare rolls and a distorted, buzzing cutup loop of the original hook. rounding out the first part of this package is xpansul (ovum, soma) with a dramatic, stringladen take that bounces along on a tough but funky bassline.

quartz music return with yet another roaring ep. this time from belgiums hermanez.
opening track hocus focus is a full spectrum. opening with its tribal drums, the addition of cascading techy sounds and then its techno stomp. the brutalness is appeased by the wonderful deep synths that fuse everything together.
next up is the more stripped, minimal sounds of served . a colder, more moody electronic feel to this one, it pops along, locked into a vicious groove. white noise builds create the drama throughout.
finally don t try this at home continues with the heavy tribal tide. rolling drums, a plethora of toms, and a bag full of spooky sounds and efx, make a strong set building track.

MAKE TOMORROW

passionate, uncompromising, resolutely underground. a few words to describe the work and career to date of swedens finest real techno exponent, grovskopa. masterminding two high-calibre labels with frequent appearances on other imprints of repute, whilst giving a voice to the techno community through the nursery forum, he is clearly one of the harder working producers around. >make tomorrow< is the next chapter in his tale for the label, following the hotly anticipated and well received prologue of sect 2. >atopic< creates dense and intimate atmospheres, overlaid with a reflective, introspective key structure, culminating in the most poignant & moving of melodic sequences. >skinstrumental< bridges the void between tracks, speaks of the space between stars as our minds turn to thoughts of galaxies and nebulae, the spirit of detroit radiating like a supernova.>the fierce hug< completes the aural triptych, by contrast offering a more upbeat, playful yet no less desirable option for the more creatively diverse techno mix

played by mathias kaden, sebo k, tobi neumann, karotte....there is a date this year in autumn you should keep in mind: the release of marcel knopfs first album on mos ferry. being a dj marcel knopf is used to fathom genre boundaries and now and then he dives into dubstep, electronica and realms of pop. with the single dusty dance you get a foretaste of the upcoming congenial longplayer. in its own way, his single enables an acoustic addiction of a thrilling style mix. these two tracks move in between smart techno and grooving illustrious house and points out, that knopf doesnt want to be bound to one musical direction. the title track and a-side of the single >dusty dance< is one of the floor fillers of his album. get ready for an enthralling groove, a monster break and a hook, where any bias against trumpets in the club is blown away. on the b-side youll find the oldschool frickling house track >rec-chord<, which reflects knopfs addiction for the beloved vinyl format. go out and get yourself a physical copy, to hear this nice and comfortable sizzling noise. its the best way to get a charming club feeling. and always remember: who buys first, may listen longer!

THE DARKEST STAR
12 Inch
29.06.09
with electric rescue, the french dj d jedi, who is known all over paris, becomes a part of the cocoon family. he is connected with the development of techno in france already since the beginning of the nineties. despite being busy as a producer for commercials and soundtracks, he always finds some time to release exciting electronic music on imprints such as f comm, communique, elp media and paul nazcas label scandium, where he has released his debut album >el.ue< three years ago. with the two tracks on >the darkest star<, electric rescue succeeds in the daring feat of transforming the energy of rave tracks from the early nineties into the present time without producing an anachronistic impression. besides a tectonically shaking bass drum, the title track relies on the power of sound, a superlative of raw club energy with a twist of irony, which can set a surprising climax with a steadily rising noise level, even after almost ten minutes. >the devils dance< is grafting a comparably brute state-of-emergency techno in a somehow restrained way, rhythm-wise, but is no less effective with its distinctive acid sound effects. and who said that modern techno cant use the tradition of belgian rave-signal-floor-burners?

20 years time, when vinyl diggers are hunting the most obscure house and techno treasures from the 90s and noughties, theyll probably turn to expert patrick specke for assistance. this dj and producer from düsseldorf is dedicated to the machines that he uses to craft his metallic, shimmying tunes - but hes equally committed to collecting the best pieces of vinyl that walk the earth. you can hear it in his tracks for this desolat release: a solid understanding of the space between the beats and the subtly textured samples that help make up a fine dance-floor groove. tracks like get me out and bitchual linestepper use tight drum loops to build the kind of stealth attack that lends itself to dancefloor damage. on naggin me the building blocks that make up the classiest 4/4 recordings are reshuffled and stretched out - from here to mars and back
GLITTERING NIGHT / SALLY 2000
12 Inch
26.06.09
the debut 12inch from finnish duo hannulelauri! first up is glittering night, conjuring visions of 8 bit videogame soundtracks applied to the dancefloor, or an alternative theme to the movie robocop (which lauri seems to have a strong affinity for), with shimmering electric synth chords washing over a commodore 64 groove before a peter hook soundalike drops a lovely bassline, making new order comparisons inevitable (a good thing!). perfect late night machine funk. next is sally 2000, a more introspective piece with insistent digital strings providing the foundation for a childlike toy chime melody, pulsating bass and more as layer upon layer builds to a fuzzed out, pixelated yet beatless climax. finally, the late night vibe continues as sally 2000 gets a version from finlands techno/house master jori hulkkonen who works the tracks pleading strings into a more dancefloor friendly mix, adding perfectly tuned drums and a nice, fat kick but keeping the synth melodies intact and the tempo slower than your normal electrohouse jam. adventurous djs looking for alternative moods need look no further! another strong flexx release.

time to express is pleased to present the first results of the collaboration between italian producer donato dozzy and colognes finest, cio d or. both artists have recorded seperately for labels such as wagon repair, railyard, aquaplano, motoguzzi, broque and treibstoff. a great three track ep with dirty minimalized techno killers that must be played out loud for full effect! somehow reminiscent to the good old days from minimal unit moebius and plastikman tracks.... when minimal techno wasnt about pleasing the crowd (which it did after all). 3 tracks with deep sub bass driven grooves and distant melodies that move in spirals in and out of the mix with a moving and twisting beat. it s sour and dirty, with a touch of that particular blend of mesmerising techno both producers are known for. the peter van hoessen mix is more upfront and in your face. mental introvert techno tracks that will take the party to another level! tip!

after mondkopf and 33hz, here is the fool house third ep : deloreans ayrton senna, somewhere between phoenix, the though alliance and air france, coming with a remix by john talabot, the latest revelation on the excellent permanent vacation label. delorean is an unheard scenario in popular music. 4 barcelonans, free as air, high on o2. gradually moving away from a more hardcore scene they are now ready to embrace a kind of techno that youd play with guitars. they did just that with their 3rd ep into the plateau which was well received in a cross-over underground scene- well before the electro-something ideas and the 80s references became the clichÚs of an overcoded era. in 2008, delorean got stuck into in the remix business working on tracks for mystery jets, big pink and glasser. for now delorean are focused on developing a new type of indie pop and judging by the early support from pitchfork, fader or xl8r this band are ones to watch. its with the greatest pride that fool house welcomes them, for a length of 4 songs, just like a holiday
